Lynching an Arsonist

A group of inmates at the Granada provincial prison in Albolote tried to lynch a fellow inmate who was accused of starting a fire in the prison. Only the rapid intervention of the prison guards managed to save the victim, who is Moroccan.

It was more than clear that the fire the previous month, caused by somebody deliberately setting light to a mattress, was meant to cause as much damage and turmoil, as it coincided with a prison-warden shift-change, with many inmates circulating along the prison corridors.

It should also be remembered that the prison holds twice the number of inmates than it was designed for, which makes any emergency evacuation plans doubly difficult.

Anyway, around 30 tattooed and disgruntled gentlemen wanted to see the North African do a blue pendulum impression a la Fred Astaire and had already cornered him when the wardens manage to get him out before his head entered the loop.

Subsequently, the prisoners returned to their cells peacefully and the victim was moved to another wing with a cell to himself.

Interestingly, the fire brought two design faults in the prison to light, one of which was that the ceilings above the vehicle access ramps are too low to allow the fire engines through.
