A squatter, who for the past eight years has been living in a home by the Mill in Salobreña, has finally been ousted, thanks to his playing with fire.
He has been charged with arson after allegedly setting a-light his own squat.
“It’s not the first time,” a neighbour commented, “but this was the worst one yet.”
The man, 53, had over the years variously insulted and threatened the neighbours, even allegedly threatening to kill them all. He appears to suffer from drug and alcohol problems, and many have feared denouncing him in case of reprisals.
During the fire, some encouraged him to come out but he refused, but soon he was yelling to be let out as the smoke was over-coming him. Motril firemen put out the fire as the Guardia took the chap away to be formally charged.
