A man who ran over three Guardia Civil agents near La Rabita is facing over ten years in prison and being sectioned (interned in a psychiatric ward). The chap, who suffers from Bi-polar Syndrome, claims of the incident, “I didn’t realise I had hit them with my car.”
Events as recounted explain that the Guardia were trying to stop him at a typical control on a roundabout as he wasn’t wearing his seatbelt, but instead of stopping he sped off.
Meanwhile, the agents had stopped his wife’s car and were in the process of writing her out a fine when the man re-appeared in his car, which is when it all went pear-shaped with his bashing into cars and running over the agents.
“I had fought with my wife, and she had said very ugly things about me, and I wanted to die, as I felt I was good for nothing, which is why I was driving away.”
The man also has to pay 47,000 euros indemnity. The three agents survived although not without injury.
