Attempted Accident Con

The Motril law courts have sentenced a driver to one year’s imprisonment for jumping a red light and by so doing, causing an accident. For once, it wasn’t some idiot on a moped, causing an accident involving a car, but vice versa.
The driver also received a 360-euro fine for lodging a false police statement, when he tried the old trick, much used lately, of reporting his car as stolen, with the intent of claiming that the vehicle was stolen before the time of the accident, so that he could claim that he had nothing to do with the incident. Finally, he has also been forbidden from driving a motor vehicle for the next three years
The incident took place in the early hours of the 18th of June 2003 when the accused man, S.J.L., took a spin through the streets of Motril, despite not having a driving licence. He collided with a moped, which was proceeding on a green light, causing the rider several injuries. The driver fled the scene of the accident, reporting the car as stolen the next morning.
