Work on the roadside of the N-340 on either side of the Punta de la Mona tunnel is continuing. Drainage is being improved by turning the earth culverts into a concrete ones.

Furthermore, the single crash barrier leading up from La Herradura is being replaced by the safer double ones: too many bikers were losing limbs or their lives because upon coming off the bikes and sliding into the barriers they collided with the unprotected stanchions, which literally acted like knife blades. The double barriers, which effectively cover over the stanchions, have been a long-standing demand by motorbike associations.
