Calle Real saw some emergency service activity during May. I was first alerted to this one whilst having a drink and a bite at El Ancla, when Cliff (get well soon mate!) told me that there had been a partial house collapse at the top of town, with part of the rear wall of a property missing.
Being the eager news hound that I am, faced with the choice of getting on my bike and following the information up, or continuing with my beer and supper… Sorry folks, the beer won.
What I can tell you is that the occupants of number 23 Calle Real rang 112 to report the collapse. On arrival, local police and firefighters confirmed that part of the floor in the property had indeed fallen away, taking some of an external wall with it.
Two families were evacuated from the premises, which were divided into two homes on separate floors, while the Municipal Surveyor was called to make a full inspection.
One family member who lives at the property, which was built in 1972, said they heard a loud bang from another room, and on entering found a great deal of the floor had fallen away.
