First on the Coast

Almuñécar will finally have a crematorium this month, if all goes to plan. Not only is this a first for the town, but it will also be the first crematorium on the Costa Tropical.
The installations, which will also have a mortuary, will be run by a private company called, The Adams Family… Nah! Just kidding! The management company, ASV is in charge of the toaster.
Almuñécar beat Motril to the post to open the coast’s first crematorium because although the other town built one first, it was unable to open it, thanks to the opposition from locals, who didn’t want ashes on their cornflakes.
Spanish law dictates that such installations cannot be within half a kilometre of a residential centre. Although the odd lunatic lives near the municipal cemetery (where the new installations are sited) it’s over a kilometre to the nearest urban concentration.
Until now, if you needed the services of a crematorium, you needed to go up to the provincial capital in Granada, or over to Málaga.
