A battalion of bulldozers have arrived and taken up residence next to the Alcampo supermarket. At last, after six years of negotiations between the Town Council and the Bolgaris Company, Motril is to get the new commercial and leisure complex it so rightly deserves and badly needs.
We are told that the total space will be somewhere in the region of 25,000 sq/m., comprising 8,500 sq/m. of commercial shopping areas and 6,300 sq/m. of green zones with bicycle tracks and pedestrian zones. There will be 1,500 parking places, a Lidl supermarket (maybe we should call this the ‘robbing zone’ as the thieves do seem to enjoy hanging out at the one in Salobreña), a Sprinter Sports outlet, Kiabi cothes, Merkal footwear and a BP petrol station. But wait, that’s not all, we are also going to get a five screen multi-cinema … woo hoo!, where’s me popcorn and sweeties with crackly paper wrappings then?
The project is to be completed some time in early 2011 at a total cost of 14,000,000 euros and Carlos Rojas, our Major, has been quick off the blocks to tell us that it will get 100 people off the unemployment register in the town and to thank Bolgaris for its conviction to invest in the town (Bolgaris no doubt know exactly what side its bread is buttered!).
