Leaky Roof?

LHR flooding 06aDid anyone else suffer with a leaky roof during the recent downpours? It seems that Spain and her buildings struggle as much with heavy rain as Britain does with snow!
The official figures show that there have been even greater amounts of water dumped upon us recently than during the great floods of 2007. However, since those bridge-breaking days, the water channels are less obstructed, so despite depositing a lifetime supply of firewood onto the beaches, there was no really big stuff clogging up the run-offs.
The Ed accompanied me on a fact-finding trip (pub crawl), to check out any flooding, and found that the Peña Parda end of the Paseo seemed worst hit… which begs the question, why do we still keep hearing about the possibility of a large hotel being built on the land adjacent to the river?
We took a couple of photographs showing the flooding to the building on the adjacent site, which, as before, suffered quite badly in the rains, and all the nearby land, where the hotel would be sited, was completely saturated. Not much hope for any proposed underground car park then?
We also visited Marina del Este, only to find the road blocked by a fallen tree near the hotel. We eventually found our way down via the ‘back way’ and had to stop at Playa Marina for further sustenance, just to get over the shock of the detour!
Another result of the rains was, as usual, traffic accidents. There were three at the turnaround point of the Punta de la Mona junction alone! Locals may have seen the damage to the barrier at the location, and maybe even the recovery of the crumpled red saloon vehicle, by crane, from the hillside below the junction.
The driver, who lost control in the wet after exiting the N-340 tunnel, went through the barrier and performed a perfect pike two and a half somersault with twist, and although his car was badly damaged, he escaped with just minor cuts and bruises.
Despite leaking roofs, flooded roads and minor landslides, we should perhaps step back, take a look at Haiti and get just a little bit of perspective.
