I was walking with the Ed today along Paseo Puerta del Mar and, to our astonishment, we saw adults straddling and climbing onto the strangest looking contraptions on the beach. We thought “Wow, an adult playground!”
We crossed the street to take a closer look and realized that it was, in fact, a series of about 10 pieces of exercise equipment – and, even more surprising to us, they were actually being used! It was really quite entertaining and almost inspiring to watch. I am absolutely clueless as to when these devices were installed, but what a nice surprise to see something available to the town citizens for free for once. (Wonder how long it will last until they start charging us a user fee?).
Well, now that Almuñécar has its very own outdoor mini-gym, I guess we can’t go on blaming our saggy butts and big bellies on not being able to afford a gym membership. Hopefully this fitness area will encourage a lot of us to get out there and work on some of our neglected muscle groups. As the saying goes, “Use it or lose it.”
Update: There are two such installations in La Herradura and three in Almuñécar. All have instructions both in Spanish and English and anybody can use them, except children.
