A Greenpeace report has named two locations on our coast as under threat. One is La Cagadilla beach in Salobreña, and the other is our own Cerro Gordo.
They allege that the area is under direct fire from the PGOU, voted for in the referendum of February 28th, which is trying to privatise areas of land, which are of vital ecological importance, they also feel areas of the plantations in the Río Jate face problems as well.
Greenpeace say that rare flora and fauna will not survive the building and infrastructure required to sustain, what they believe, under the PGOU, could be up to 30,000 homes being built on such land.
Some may say this is just the chomping of a toothless tiger, or the ravings of a lot of tree-hugging, woolly-hat-wearing lefties… but try telling that to the developers and the Town Hall who tried to build a large hotel in the province of Almería, but woke up one morning to find the Rainbow Warrior II, anchored just offshore from the skeleton of their illegal hotel built on Parque Natural – that structure is due to be demolished. So beware, Mr. Benvenides, because if Greenpeace feel this is a real ‘no no’, there may be repercussions even you cannot weather.
