Bathers at Torrenueavas beware! Last month a whopping 30-kilo jellyfish was hauled out of the water by the local civil guard.
Now that’s one hell of a creature, and certainly not one you’d like to bump into with a bikini on.
The Civil Guard discovered the beast as they were making their routine water checks and once they’d managed to haul it out of the water it took up all the space in their largest bucket.
Two years ago, similar-sized medusas were also found along the coast however Mayor, Manuel Estevez, claimed that this one was the largest yet, with ‘tentacles of a 30-kilo jelly!” He was quite obviously bowled over by the magnitude too but went on to point out that this was an exception as the Granada coast has been relatively jellyfish free for the past two years.
He also pointed out that swimmers need not fear as there is a network of beady eyes on the constant lookout for the little wobbly devils. The ‘jelly-guard’ comprises of a whole host of fishermen, scuba divers and coastal watchmen who immediately send out warnings, if the jellies start coming in too close.
