Beach goers beware this summer and take heed of the rules for good beach conduct. It started last month with a ban on fishing rods and has now spread to a complete ban on music (hi-fi’s, radios, musical instruments et al), BBQ’s, dogs and, Germans take note, using your towel or umbrella to save yourself a prime beach spot while you pop off for a siesta.
One would think it would be easier to list the activities you can actually do on the beach! Break any of the rules by the way and may find yourself lumped with a hefty fine. And don’t think that just because there aren’t any men in uniform around you can get away with it as I found out first hand the other morning. Whilst taking my pups for an early morning run on the sand we bumped into, literally, a normal looking guy who then presented us with a (rather dodgy) looking beach inspectors badge and threatened us a with a 600-euro fine! Ouch, we escaped only after playing the dumb foreigner card, but won’t be so lucky again.
