Sports facilities

In response to recent criticism that the district of Lobres does not have a sufficient sports program, the Area Commissioner, Isabel Correa, offered a detailed list of all the activities currently on offer throughout the area. She claimed that accusations made by the secretary for the PSOE, Arsenio González, were misinformed.
Firstly, the sports activities provided by the government were open to everyone, which includes both ‘natives’ (as so described by Mr González) and immigrants, making the point that the PP does not differentiate between the two. Secondly, she defended accusations that the government, since coming into power, have done nothing to help the area that still does not have a gymnasium, or a swimming pool or a sports club etc. She went on to invite the general secretary to come and see for himself the amount of activity that takes place on any given night of the week, such as aerobics classes, tai chi, rhythmic gymnastics, karate etc. all organised by the government. She also made it clear that Mr González was welcome to join in on any of the activities and that it might enable him to be in a better position to comment in the future.
Expansion of the municipal nursery will begin soon under the Works funded by the Plan Proteja. According to the Councillor for Education, Rosario Izquierdo, all little ones of the town should have a place for next year. Total cost of the works has been estimated at 120,000 euros and will begin this month. Two more classrooms will be built in the North wing, each with bathroom facilities. They have been designed to fit in with the current architecture and will even have matching Arabic roof tiles.
Four new jobs will be created during the three month building period and once the new facilities are up and running, 40 new places for children will be available. Currently the municipal nursery of Salobreña, Federico García Lorca, has nine classrooms with place for 140 children between the ages of 0 – 3 years. There is a long waiting list for places and the extra space created by the new facilities should help alleviate this.
The department of education would like to inform all parents hoping to enrol their children next term to obtain information from the nursery. Rosario Izquierdo also explained that as a result of the new expansion all children could now be registered, without priority being given to those with working parents. She quoted that all children have the right to an equal education. This is the second expansion of the nursery in the last six months.
