Salobreña Flooding… Again

SAL Flooding schools OnLThe Mayor of Salobreña, Mª Eugenia Rufino, was forced to activate the Plan de Emergencias because of the flooding at the beginning of this week.

The same rainfall that left a blanket of snow on the Sierra Nevada, also flooded the port area of Motril and the lower part of Salobreña. Almuñécar and La Herradura were similarly hit.

“When it began to rain at two in the morning, I couldn’t imagine what was going to happen at 04.45h,” confessed the Mayor, adding, “At that moment a river of rain water gushed in from the town entrance into the lower part of Salobreña, especially the schools García Lorca and Mediterráneo.”

SAL N340 collapse wall OnLAccording to the Mayor, between five and seven in the morning 80 litres per sq/m fell on the town.

As can be expected, the schools remained closed that day.

Lastly, a section of wall on the N-340 gave way, causing the main road to be temporarily closed.w.
