Not Heartening Good News?

The reason for the contradictory heading is because although the mission of the Governmental Sub-Delegate for Granada, Santiago Pérez, was to reassure the residents of the Costa Tropical that the new conservative government would give priority to the completion of the A-7 autovia, the wording wasn’t actually that reassuring.

A7 Gorgoracha-Puntalon Go Ahead

The much-needed stretch of autovia between Gorgoracha and Puntalón was 75% complete when all work ground to a halt; the construction company Isolux Corsan had struck an unexpected strata of rock that would require a lot of extra funding to reroute the construction work.

A-7 Confusion

The Province of Granada seems to be receiving one piece of bad news after another. First of all it was the negative from Brussels to route the Mediterranean rail-freight network via Costa Tropical, leaving Motril port without a rail connection, and then on the 26th of October, it was announced that the autovia construction between Taramay and Salobreña had seemingly ground to a halt.

A-7 Protests

Politicians, business owners and residents in general gathered along the N-340 where it passes through Torrenueva to protest at the lack of progress on the Mediterranean motorway (autovia) where it passes through the province of Granada – i.e., the only province in the whole of the Mediterranean coastline of Spain that does not have the A-7 thoroughfare.

In fact, several plenary meetings of the municipal council have culminated in a request to the Demarcacion de Carretera (road authorities) for such a junction, as well as one at the entrance to the Urbanizacion de Las Palomas, just before the Cerro Gordo tunnel.

Spoilt Malaga

Many Granadinos couldn’t believe what they were reading in their daily newspapers; while the A-7 hardly advances and in some cases has stood still for over a year, the bloody Malgueños have had a troublesome bend in their long-existing stretch of the A-7 straightened out, bless them.

Top Tunnel

The A-7 autovia tunnel, Cantalobos has been voted the safest tunnel in Spain by the national motoring club RACC!

A-7 Rescued?

The question is; whom do you believe? The Government states one thing but the facts on the ground indicate another – the opposite, in fact.

Autovía 2013? (Part I)

The completion of the coastal dual carriageway, so that we will be able to drive along the Costa Tropical from one end of the province to the other and beyond is something that our politicians hold out to us as imminent.. always imminent, yet the long-awaited moment constantly recedes.

Autovía 2013? (Part II)

It was in 2005 when the then Minister for Public Works, Magdelena Álvarez, announced that the A-7 coastal autovía would open in 2008. We could go back 20 years, if we wanted to retrace the first steps of the autovía, but let’s keep things within recent memory.
