First Movements on 7-Star Site

Work began towards the end of last month on the hillside where the 7-star hotel is planned, after the Town Hall gave the green light for geo-technical surveys; i.e., sinking bore holes for strata samples.

Almuñécar Hotel Branches Out

The owner(s) of Almuñécar’s Hotel Victoria Playa have purchased a plot of land on Playa Granada in Motril, quite close to Hotel Robinson, where they are going to build a 4-star hotel and multi-use centre.

Marina Playa Granada

The company that intent to build a marina on Playa Granada has now presented its viability report to the Junta de Andalucia. There Project has a budget of 85 million euros and would make a huge change to the prospects for this part of the town and tourism in Motril in general.

The 13th of August was the only day, so far, that hotels on the Costa Tropical were 100% full – campsites, however, have been full on the last two weekends at least.

Mayor’s Reassurance on 7 Star

The Mayoress of Almunecar, Trinidad Herrera, had a meeting in Granada with the provincial Delegate for the Junta, Maria Jose Sanchez about the latest development on the 7-star hotel, planned for Cotobro (Peñon del Lobo) and its building licence.

7 Star in Trouble

According to the IU (left-wing coalition) the Junta called on the Almunecar Town Hall to annul the building licence for the 7-star hotel in Cotobro on the Penon del Lobo on the 30th of June, days before the local elections.

Cotobro Beach Controversy

Today, there was an article in the provincial press, concerning Cotobro Beach, or more accurately, the lack of it: the gale at the beginning of the week had wiped it out. New Mercandona?

Mercandona will be opening up a new supermarket on San Cristóbal, behind Hotel Playa (the old Sol Melía). Quite apart from actually having a decent-sized supermarket on that side of town, it will also come with 200 parking spaces – whoopee! 7 Star Hotel News

Whether or not the projected hotel will be a 7-star hotel or a 5-star one is really besides the point, because even a luxury 5-star hotel is a major asset to Almuñécar. However, it doesn’t end there.
