Iguana Playa

Table with a view sir? Well, that’s the only type of table you get when you dine on the terrace at Iguana Playa. Situated at the far end of El Pozuelo Beach in Taramay, Almuñécar, it truly is a stunning location.


It is difficult to pass on to readers, which are the best of the dishes available, as we have enjoyed everything from delicious mild Kormas, tasty Tikkas and lovely spicy Masalas, through to a very hot Phal after which it was scientifically possible to fry an egg on my left buttock!


If, like me, you enjoy finding a bit of shade during the summer, but still want to watch the world go by, do what I do and pay a visit to Café-Bar Pin-Ball, on under the Paseo del Altillo in Almuñécar. With its huge terrace, with seaviews in both shade and sun.

Reina Sofia

Miguel has created a first class venue, beautifully styled and serving superb, original international cuisine, and this combination has made this restaurant into one of those rare places where the customers are divided equally into Spanish and international clientele.

La Ventura

Just two minutes from the beach, this restaurant delivers on all fronts. The place itself would be worth a visit, even without the food, and it is just as beautiful now as it was when I used to partake of a drink or two there, nearly 30 years ago.

Los Laureles

If you visit the Almuñécar area, and don’t eat at Los Laureles at least once, then you should seriously consider a visit to the old ‘head doctor’ when you get home, because you’d have to be mad not to eat there!
