Drilling Off Motril Coast?

The Central Government in Madrid has said that it sees no reason why seabed prospecting for oil cannot take place off the coast of Motril. It reassures those concerned that the Royal Decree that gave the go-ahead to CNWL Oil España in 2010 only permits the said company to carry out its exploration work as long as it strictly observes all the environmental precautions in the area.

Motril Fishermen Uneasy

When the Motril fishermen spotted a ship belonging to the gas-prospecting company, Chinook, making its way repeatedly between Nerja and Adra, they feared the worse, so they were soon hammering on the Mayor’s door.

Pirates and Fishermen

A total of four fishing boats from Motril have set off to troubled waters, their families, neighbours and fellow fishermen fired off festive rockets when they threw off their mooring ropes in a vain attempt to raise their spirits.

Knees Up in Village

La Herradura had a good ‘knees up’ (party) during the Fiestas of the Virgen del Carmen, (16th -18th July) who is the patron saint of fishermen.
