Actually on the beach at Marina de Este, La Herradura, this beautiful Chiringuito, is a real gem. Set in the most beautiful of little bays they provide excellent fresh fish, seafood specialities and paella every day.

Las Brujas
by David Darby •
Brujas is the Spanish word for witches, and when you enter the bar, you realize why! Ana and Auxi, who run this fantastic place, take their witching very seriously. The whole bar is decked out with dolls and pictures of witches and ‘witchy’ paraphernalia; it’s almost like Halloween’s every day!
Brilliant tapas and rations of delicious, freshly prepared Spanish food make this one of my favourite places to hang out. The girls are really good fun, and mock me mercilessly, which I have to admit, is fully deserved.
La Tartana
by David Darby •
Are you on holiday in La Herradura or the surrounding area? Have you tried the beautiful restaurant called La Tartana? No? Then you are a very, very, naughty visitor.
On Urbanización San Nicolás, just on the other side of the N-340 from the main village, this is one of the most beautiful venues in the area. With a beautiful little courtyard with a fountain centre feature, and spectacular garden terraces this venue cannot adequately be described in words or even pictures.
Mirador de Cerro Gordo
by David Darby •
Now moving on to La Herradura, what is the best thing about Mirador de Cerro Gordo? Is it the location, the food or just how good the team working there is? Well the location can only be described as stunning, and I do not use that word lightly. Of course, I mustn’t overstate things, to ensure fair play amongst all the restaurants in the area, but if there is a better location to enjoy truly excellent food, than sitting in the Mirador de Cerro Gordo at sunset, then I have yet to find it.
La Trattoria
by David Darby •
In a little square, right in the middle of Almuñécar, La Trattoria, is like a hidden treasure. The reason this restaurant/pizzeria survives is because people know a good thing when they find it, and return again and again.
El Árbol Blanco
by David Darby •
Back to the top of Avenida Costa Del Sol now with those talented brothers Jorge and Nacho, who have made this most popular of restaurants a must on the Spanish, as well as visitor s’ list of places to go.
You can enjoy a fantastic range of brilliantly prepared Mediterranean cuisine, either on the cool terrace, inside or even an intimate table for two in the upstairs dining area.
Reina Sofia
by David Darby •
Miguel has created a first class venue, beautifully styled and serving superb, original international cuisine, and this combination has made this restaurant into one of those rare places where the customers are divided equally into Spanish and international clientele.
La Ventura
by David Darby •
Just two minutes from the beach, this restaurant delivers on all fronts. The place itself would be worth a visit, even without the food, and it is just as beautiful now as it was when I used to partake of a drink or two there, nearly 30 years ago.
Meson Mari y Miguel
by David Darby •
Accompanying the Ed to Mari y Miguel turned out to be a real treat. Expecting just a tapa or two with our beers, we were so impressed with the meat dish we sampled that we ended up getting a whole ration!
Los Laureles
by David Darby •
If you visit the Almuñécar area, and don’t eat at Los Laureles at least once, then you should seriously consider a visit to the old ‘head doctor’ when you get home, because you’d have to be mad not to eat there!
