Nude Man Interrupts Mass

There seems to be a growing trend of interrupting religious services at churches and what follows is just one more case of this. A man stripped off his clothes at the altar and launched a tirade of invectives against the congregation.

Mirador Facelift

Anybody who has been up to the top of the old town, to the parking next to the church, will have seen workmen digging up the concrete surface in front of the church. The reason for this is that the Public Works Department of the Town Hall has decided to do something about the damp problem caused by rainwater seeping down into the tunnel.

Changes to the Church Street

The steep hill leading up from the town-hall square (Plaza de la Constitución) to the main church is to have some work done on the stone steps, which have caused a few slips and bumps for the unwary.

Making the Rounds

Normally, a collection plate in a church is where you leave alms or donations, but this was not the case for two gentlemen from La Mamola, aged 48 and 43, who allegedly decided that it was a source of revenue.

500th Birthday

Did you know that La Iglesia Mayor is having its 500th birthday – that’s a lot of candles! This church-cum-fortress has withstood pirate raids and earthquakes – even a sacking during the Spanish Civil War, so it could do with a spot of restoration work.
