Clearing out the Overgrown Gullies

The Maintenance Department has been busy clearing out the vegetation in the Barranco del Quemado – La Cañada in La Herradura. That’s the one that runs down alongside the main road just before traffic lights (next to the plant nursery, Agrosur).

It’s Wet

Friday had seen by midday 50 litres per square metre – hardly surprising as it belted down between 04.30h and 07.30h and hasn’t stopped raining since then.

Car Plunges Down Gully

A 53-year-old man died after driving over the side of a steep gully above Almuñécar, on the road that leads up to Peña Escrita. The family had reported him missing the day before.

You Get What You Deserve?

The Granada, provincial branch of the Ecologistas en Acción have sent in a report (denuncia) to the Environment and Public Works Department of the Junta de Andalucía over what they qualify as a ‘tremendous amount of illegal earth shifting’ that is could well adversely effect the barranco de la Vizcarra, up above Calahonda (Karst area). It was precisely storm water from this barranco (gully) that caused the flooding in the village several months ago.

Mummified Corpse in Sleeping Bag

The Policia Nacional are investigating the grisly discovery of a mummified and partly dismembered corpse that was found in a sleeping bag at the bottom of a barranco in Mijas.

Barranco de Itrabo Cleared

The Town Council appears to have taken the clearing of dry riverbeds of vegetation very seriously, as work on the Barranco de Itrabo has just concluded.

Tragic Car Accident

On a more tragic note, a mother and her young daughter perished when the woman was taking the child to school. Their car plunged down a steep hillside just outside Pampaneira, plummeting some 400 metres to the bottom.
