Axel and I have frequently written about the sense and nonsense of treatments, but hardly about tests. Tests are neither a magic wand to keep you healthy, nor to detect illness. For example everybody agrees on fasting blood sugar testing, but what does a normal result say? Everything and nothing. As a single test it may be useful to screen for diabetes, but a normal test does still not exclude it entirely.

Big Flag for Almuñécar

Residents of Almuñecar will have noticed all the work going on around the fountain up on La Carrera de la Concepción roundabout (just across from the bus station).
Well, the work is all in aid of Columbus Day, which is this Wednesday, and the work includes an 18m flagpole, which will be situated in the fountain and will fly a Spanish flag which will probably be about the size of a small country. They are also trying to upgrade the entrance to Cl Puerta de Granada, which is the little lane from that area going up to the church and the Casa de Cultura, which is very difficult to drive into as you have to cross in front of the traffic lights.
Almuñecar Facelift?

The Town Hall plans to rejuvenate the old town around the castle in Almuñecar and turn it into a tourist friendly area, using half a million euros from the 1.5m-euro fund set aside by becoming an official provincial tourist town.
The Town Council is looking forward to the economic boost that the new tourist status will bring and are pledging to give the town a facelift.
Punta Access Road Finished

Cotobro Repair Work Commences

Today, work was started on Cotobro’s Calle Principal, which leads up from the beach near Playa del Muerto and connects with the N-340 and Punta de la Mona. According to the works’ foreman, both sections that were damaged by landslides are to have their contention walls rebuilt.

AECC Charity Run

As always, the race saw many entrants running for our, much-loved, local, cancer charity, AECC (Asociacion Española Contra el Cancer). These local residents all gave up their time, not just during the run, but also obtaining sponsorship and training for the day. Some ran just a couple of K’s, while others ran the entire 14… with some respectable times we might add!
New Municipal Offices Near Castle

The residents of the San Miguel area (old town area around the Castle) of Almuñecar now have a local municipal office, which is located on Calle San Miguel, in what was the old school building.
