Minis, Left, Right & Centre

If you saw a herd on Minis whizzing by last weekend, you weren’t seeing things, but rather the participants of the Ruta de Mini Clásicos por la Costa Tropical.

The club dedicated to this historic car, made legendary in the Italian Job staring Michael Cane (You’re only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!) chooses a town each year between Málaga and Almería.

This year it was the turn of Salobreña and 14 Minis, from the classic ones to even the Mini Vans, all lovingly looked after, took part in the event.

It started on the Saturday with a tour along the eastern end of the Costa Tropical, visiting the cliffs on the N-340 to Castell de Ferro and the hanging bridge in Torrecuevas before cruising into Salobreña, where they stopped for lunch somewhere along the beach paseo.

Suitably replenished, they carried out a slow pass through the town, right up to the top of the Casco Antiguo, visiting also La Caleta and ending the day parked up at Hotel Salambina.

Then on Sunday, the planned route took them to Almuñécar, Torrecuevas, Jete and Ítrabo, before ending up in Lobres with a visit to the Ron Montero factory there (as opposed the the Ron Montero brewery in Motril) before enjoying a paella in the village square.
