You can have the keys to a home on the Costa Tropical and still wonder when your new life will begin. The boxes are unpacked, the sea is nearby, yet you miss the ease of knowing whom to call or having a friend who drops by.

Whether we move for work, a relationship, retirement or a fresh start, settling in takes more than a change of address. For women arriving in midlife, there may also be a quieter question: what do I want this part of my life to look like?
Five practical steps can help us find our feet.
* Make daily life comfortable. Before perfecting the guest bedroom, organise the spaces you use every day. Somewhere to sleep well, cook comfortably and sit with a morning coffee makes an unfamiliar house easier to enjoy. Give yourself permission to leave a few boxes unopened.
* Get to know your home. Locate the water stopcock and electricity panel, label spare keys and keep appliance instructions together. Check for leaks and signs of damp, especially in rooms that have stood closed. A simple cleaning and maintenance routine helps you notice small problems before they disrupt your plans.
* Build a dependable local contact list. Ask neighbours and other residents for recommendations, then check that a tradesperson has experience with the work you need. Agree the scope, price and timing in writing. If you arrange cleaning, clarify what is included: routine upkeep and a deep clean can involve very different tasks.
* Make connection a regular appointment. Choose an activity you can attend repeatedly, whether a language exchange, a walk or a creative workshop. Familiarity gives friendships time to develop. The Costa Women Costa Tropical group offers opportunities to meet other women, share knowledge and explore local life. You can arrive without a ready-made circle of friends.
* Leave room for your own interests. A move can fill every spare hour with errands, visitors and household jobs. Protect some time for something you enjoy, even while the practicalities remain unfinished. Practising Spanish in everyday conversations can also help you participate more confidently in your new surroundings.
Some days will feel exciting; others may feel lonely or frustrating. Missing your previous life does not mean you made the wrong decision. You can value what you left behind while becoming attached to somewhere new.
Perhaps the first sign of belonging will be quite ordinary: a familiar face at the market, a neighbour’s greeting, or someone asking whether you will be there next week. Enjoy our wonderful Costa Tropical – you have found a great new place for your new home.
