This took place on Wednesday night around 20.30h at a Seniors nursing home with one 82-year-old woman dying soon after arriving at the hospital, followed by a 91-year-old man early the next morning at the Hospital Regional de Axarquía.

The remaining four occupants in the lift when it crashed down (aged between 68 and 91) are currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) suffering from arm and leg fractures, amongst other severe injuries.

Naturally, the emergency-services turn-out was extensive with Policía Local & Policía Nacional, fire personnel from the Vélez-Málaga station and ambulances.

Emergency personnel worked in the building for several hours whilst trying to clarify the circumstances of the lift failure. At present the cause is not known.
