Beware of Wild Bacon

A woman in her mid 60s from Soraluze, (Basque Country), is recovering at Hospital Donostia from injuries of varying severity caused by a wild boar which attacked her whilst she was walking along a road.

The injured woman knows the area very well and is used to walking around the surroundings where she was attacked, since she lives in a casario (farmhouse) located in that area.

This took place around 10:00h on Sunday, when the animal charged her after coming out onto the road from an area of brush and trees. The 67-year-old woman fell to the ground but fortunately the animal stopped its attack and wandered off, leaving her to phone for help.

An ambulance promptly arrived and took her to Hospital Donostia, where she is continuing her recovery and is described as “out of danger, ” according to a local, town-council spokesperson.

As soon as this wild-boar attack became known in the town of Soraluze, rumours quickly spread in the Debabarrena region that the incident registered in the upper part of the San Andrés area could be related to a roe deer hunt that had taken place that same Sunday morning.

However, the roe-deer hunt took place in a wooded area in a different valley some four or five kilometers from the place where the wild-boar attack occurred. However, the Soraluze Town Council and the forest-ranger service said that, “although it cannot be ruled out 100%, it does not seem that there is any relation between the Txurruka hunt and the San Andrés attack.” adding that it was just “an unfortunate accident.”
