A Guardia Civil launch found another floating body wearing a lifejacket/flotation device off the coast of Málaga on Saturday the 26th.
This is the third body located off the coast of Málaga in less than a month. Like the previous cases, the deceased was still wearing a flotation device, leading authorities to presume that he is another migrant who died whilst attempting to swim to the Spanish Peninsula.
According to sources, the body was severely decomposed and was even missing some parts, including the head, due to the amount of time it had been in the water.
Officers recovered the body and transferred it to the Fuengirola Port and from there to the Instituto de Medicina Legal (IML) in Málaga, where an autopsy was carried out.
The advanced decomposition of the body leaves open the possibility that it belongs to one of the young men who entered Ceuta in large numbers at the end of July.
As mentioned above, the Guardia Civil are also investigating the discovery of the other bodies found off the Costa de Sol showing signs of drowning. Both were wearing neoprene wetsuits and flotation devices, which led to the same conclusion.
The first of the previous discoveries occurred on the 15th at the eastern end of the Costa del Sol and as in this latest case, the body was taken to Fuengirola Port by Salvamento Marítimo and from there to the IML. The second body was found barely 24 hours later under similar circumstance, but this time out to sea off Nerja, so the body was taken to Vélez-Málaga. The deceased was also wearing a neoprene wetsuit, fins, and a flotation device. He was carrying several mobile phones and dirhams, the official currency of several countries, including Morocco.
These two bodies also showed no signs of foul play. It is presumed that both drowned whilst attempting to cross the Strait using flotation devices, though these two prior cases appear to be more recent as the bodies had spent very few days in the sea.
