Bruno Kram, the legendary keyboardist and founding member of industrial music trailblazers Das Ich, dropped dead after a concert in the Sala Planta Baja music pub in Granada.
Bruno, aged 58, had finished what was to be his last gig in the early hours of Saturday morning and was found unconscious and unresponsive. When paramedics arrived they were unable to revive him and confirmed his death. It is believed he had choked to death.
The National Police have stated that his death appears to have been an accidental, and no criminal investigation has been opened.
The group Das Ich was founded in 1989 by Bruno Kramm and frontman Stefan Ackermann (no relation to Jan Ackerman/Dutch group, Focus.)
Das Ich earned an undisputed place at the forefront of European industrial music. For nearly four decades, they captivated global audiences by blending raw, post-punk, darkwave, and the heavy, metallic energy of gothic-industrial. In other words… they were very noisy.
Yet, their sound was instantly recognisable as it had a neoclassical, symphonic atmosphere, blended with profound German philosophical texts, all delivered via an intensely theatrical act – he sported a devil-horn hair style when playing with the band.When the group faded, Bruno turned to being a music producer until Das Ich decided to make a comeback to celebrate their latest album, Fanal – a record described as being “composed from the debris of human achievements and broken ideals.”
The band had just performed successful dates in Zamora on September 11th and Madrid on September 12th before the Friday 24th’s tragic final show.
Bruno Kram might be dead but the Granada live-music scene most definitely is not – Sala Planta Baja has been going for at least 40 years, probably longer!
