The Motril Port Authority has restarted improvement & modernisation work on the passenger terminal these past few days, now that the summer, peak-passenger period for ferry lines to and from North Africa is over.

The project, which is scheduled to finish by the end of the year, has the main objectives of easing traveller flow, improving security and accessibility conditions, and improving the upper floor of the building, which will now house Customs & Immigration controls.

Two moving ramps (escalators), a 3-flight, outside stairway, and an lift with a capacity for eight people are being installed, which will connect the Muelle de Levante (dock) with the access platform to the first floor. The project has an approximate budget of 797,000 euros and is being carried out by the joint venture (UTE) Soluciona Obras y Servicios SLU and Lirola Ingeniería y Obras SL.

With this intervention, the Port Authority seeks not only to adapt the maritime station to current operational needs derived from passenger traffic but also to modernize a building that plays a fundamental role in the port of Motril’s regular maritime connections with North Africa.

Improving Operability

The Chairman of Motril Port Authority of Motril, José García Fuentes, said, “This work represents an important step to improve both the operability of the port and the passenger experience, while gaining spaces for amenities that improve user comfort.”
