The Casa de la Cultura in Almuñécar will be the venue for the II Ciclo de Jazz de Almuñécar from the 18th to the 20th of this month; starting Thursday.
The concerts will consist of Contemporary Jazz performed by the Christopher Pérez Quartet, ML Quartet, and Ede & Fe Quartet.
This event has been organised by Juventudes Musicales de Almuñécar, in collaboration with the Municipal Department of Culture and Juventudes Musicales de España.
Starting on Thursday at 20.00h, the Christopher Pérez Quartet, winner of the First Prize at the IV Juventudes Musicales de España Jazz Competition. The quartet consists of Christopher Pérez (saxophone), David Muñoz (double bass), Daniel Pimenta (drums), and Guillaume Coulbois (piano). Their musical style moves between modern jazz and creative music, with a special emphasis on improvisation.
Then on Friday, starting at the same time in the evening, ML Quartet, who will perform their work, Cicatrices (Scars). The group, comprises Luque Regodón (double bass), Christopher Pérez (saxophone), Biel Harper (piano), and Lluís Pérez-Villegas (drums) They won Second Prize at the 110th Jazz Competition of Juventudes Musicales de España in 2024.
Their music combines influences from Modern Jazz and improvised music with elements of traditional folklore and flamenco. Cicatrices, released in 2024, brings together compositions inspired by “personal experiences, learning, and the way the past influences the present and the future,” reads their website.
The festival ends on Saturday, with the concert starting at the usual time of 20.00h, with Ede & Fe Quartet: Músicas de Cuba y Brasil. The concert title pretty much explains the influences of their work.
The quartet features Ede Pedroso (vocals, flute, and percussion), Fe Wilhelmi (flutes, saxophones, and percussion), Miguel Ángel Corral (guitar), and Enrique Lugones (percussion).
