Youth Centre Plans

Almuñécar Town Council has awarded the contract for turning the old Estación Náutica on the paseo into the La Herradura Youth Centre.

Magnia Emprendimiento SL has the contract for 172,814) whose terms include an execution duration of fourteen weeks.

It will feature, amongst othere features, a new study room; something highly demanded by young people, students, and civil service exam candidates.

The Councillor for Procurement, Rafael Caballero, (who is also the Chairman of the Mancomunidad) said, “With this contract award, we take a new step towards making an important project for young people into reality.”

Reader’s will recall that the Mayor had first wanted the original building demolished (rather than adapted) and a block of government-subsidised flats built in its place, which was met by strong opposition.

The project includes the following:

  • Renovating wall coverings, flooring, paint, and finishes.
  • Replacing carpentry and doors.
  • Adapting the restrooms.
  • Modernising the electrical, plumbing, and telecommunications installations.

There has been no mention of what they are going to do with the pool, which locals wanted preserved for public use, but the most likely answer is that it will be demolished.
