Tram Car Restoration

Rincón de la Victoria has a park called Parque del Mediterráneo or better said, they're finishing setting it up after it was started in February 2025.

One of the centre pieces is going to be a tram-car and the Town Hall has begun the administrative process of hiring a company to restore it.

The vehicle was obtained to represent the tram, or narrow-guage train, known as La Cochinita which used to run between the capital of the Axarquía and the City of Málaga, but which was closed down in 1968.

Interestingly, the tram-car that is to be restored had spent the last years as a static, reading room next to the old train station on the seafront paseo, but had deteriorated due to a lack of maintanance and had been vandalised; i.e., covered in grafitti and the windows smashed (See photo).

It was moved at the beginning of February using a heavy-duty crane t(he tram-car weighs 12 tonnes) from where it had stood on Calle Lebeche, exposed to the elements and potential damage, to its new location.

In this phase of the restoration project, a bidding process has been opened to find interested companies, which can submit offers until May 28th. The estimated budget exceeds €54,000, including taxes and the task, once started, should take no more than five months.
