Jazz in Motril

It looks like Motril will be offering some competition to Almuñécar come July because they will be hosting their own Jazz Festival.

Entitled, Moving Jazz, the 2-day Jazz festival will fall on the 17th and 18th and will be held in the Parque Pueblos de América. Admission will be free.

The event is organised by La Casa Rosa, and their aim is to turn this into a permanent, summer feature along the lines of Almuñécar’s Jazz en La Costa.

The festival will offer five main concerts featuring avant-garde jazz, groove, and afrobeat. The latter is the genre created by Fela Kuti and Tony Allen in 1970s Nigeria that blends Yoruba music, jazz, funk, and highlife.

This will be accompanied by a parallel programme starting at 20.00h, featuring artistic proposals that mix music, poetry, theatre, as a prelude to the main concerts, which begin at 22.00h

As for the line up for both days:
Friday the 17th: DjToner Q4rtet & Jorge Pardo and Jiri Jiri.
Saturday the 18th: Veículo Longo, The Heliocentrics, and Afrika Afrobeat.

We’ll remind you when we get closer to the date.
