Sports Fishermen Want Dialogue

The Asociación de Pescadores Deportivos Costa Tropical held a meeting with the Mayor of Salobreña, Ortega Prados, concerning the Tesorillo-Salobreña Special Area of Conservation (ZEC).

The association presented scientific proposals to prove that marine conservation can coexist with sustainable recreational fishing, arguing that the Tesorillo-Salobreña ZEC could become a pioneer model to follow on the Costa Tropical and the Andalusian coast in general.

According to the association, they want to avoid the social upset previously seen concerning the Punta de la Mona restrictions, by being included in the planning process; i.e., consulted and their input valued.

As for the next step, finding the Mayor receptive to their ideas, the association will now meet with councillors in Motril, Almuñécar, Carchuna-Calahonda, Castell de Ferro and the Junta de Andalucía to ensure that they get a seat at the table.
