On the 21st of March the Official State Gazette (BOE) published a change to the tobacco market.
This resolution establishes new retail prices for all tobacco & stamp shops (estancos) which are state-run tobacconists. A unique aspect of this update is that there was no transition period; the new prices took effect the same day they were officially published.
The update covers cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, and tobacco leaf (both rolling and pipe tobacco). Amongst the brands debuting new prices are:
Cigars/Cigarillos: Asylum, Montecristo and Vegafina.
Pipe Tobacco: Anda Blyat and Jockey.
In recent weeks, tobacconists in Almería and across the country had already been implementing price changes for major brands such as Marlboro, Chesterfield, Nobel, Ducados and Winston, which are among the top sellers in Spain.
For smokers in Andalucía, this means it is wise to check the price of their usual brand each time they visit a shop, as changes can occur frequently and with very little prior notice.
