The A-4050, better known as the Cabra, which runs through Otívar was closed after a road cutting came down upon it.
From the photo, the house perched at the top is the La Locura, and was accessed via a steep track running up to it above a vertical road cutting, made in the 90s when they straigtened the road. They had ‘reinforced’ the cutting with thick, metal mesh and sprayed-on cement.

Otívar Town Hall says that you can still get round the affected area on foot but by being very careful, but vehicles can’t.
Luckily this happened on a Friday; on the last day of school of the week. The plan was for the school bus to drive up as far as where the earth slide is, then for the schoolchildren to walk up to the village from there.
Other’s have left their cars next to Chispa’s old warehouse (just visible in the bottom-left corner of the top photo) and walked around the damaged area, arranging for somebody to drive down to pick them up.
One thing is for certain, it won’t be sorted out this weekend or probably in a while because that hillside is now very unstable, it appears.
