The Winter Gale Arrives

Intense rainfall recorded yesterday evening at the western end of the Costa del Sol has forced the activation of emergency protocols.

There was also the closure of numerous river and stream crossings within the municipalities of Estepona, Manilva, and Casares, according to reports from Protección Civil services and the affected town councils.

In Estepona, Protección Civil announced the closure of all river fords within the township because of rising water levels. Affected river crossings: Río Guadalobón, Río La Cala (Los Molinos) Río Padrón, Río Velerín, Río Castor and Río Guadalmina, as well as Arroyo Las Cañas.

There have also been cases of houses and underground parking being flooded in Estepona, fire personnel from the Málaga Provincial Firefighters Consortium, based at the Estepona station, were out working to cut and remove a large tree that had fallen onto a house in Urb. Mar y Monte.

There were also trees down in Benahavís yesterday morning in the Urb. El Alcuzcuz. Fire personnel also had to clear a road, which was later reopened to traffic. No flooding, swept-away vehicles, or river closures have been recorded in that area.
