The ex-partner of a Motril woman who lies critically ill in hospital after a brutal assault has been arrested.
The assault took place on Monday of this week and was allegedly carried out by a man with whom she had shared a sentimental relationship.

Such was the ferocity of the attack that she had to be transferred from Hospital Santa Ana to Hospital Universitario Clínico San Cecilio in Granada to undergo an operation (her spleen was removed), which won’t be the last one needed.
Apparently, the animosity between the ex-couple had bubbled over into an exchange of denucias. This was followed by a court order forbidding the woman from approaching her ex-partner.
However, this court order had been breached several times and it was during one of these encounters that the violence allegedly erupted.
If this incident does turn out to be a case of gender violence, then it will be the second case this year in Motril as during the summer a 54-year-old woman died in hospital after being assaulted by her partner. He was arrested and charged with homicide (it’s not clear whether it was a charge of manslaughter or murder).
