Sorting out Otívar’s Water

The Chairman of the Mancomunidad, Rafael Caballero, was in Otívar this morning, accompanied by the Manager of Aguas y Servicios, Alejandro Jurado, and the mayor of Otívar, Francisco Robles.

The meeting was about the modernisation-&-digitalisation project for the water supply system, which has a budget of €119,169, co-financed by the Junta and Aguas y Servicios – 100,000 from the former and 19,169 from the latter.

Water utility company manager, Alejandro Jurado, explained that “the project is divided into three phases, two of which are already complete.” These include the automation and digitisation of the Campiñuela Baja reservoir (which supplies most of the population) Campiñuela Alta, and Calle Cuevas, as well as the installation of flow and pressure meters in all of them, connected to the SCADA system.

Mayor Robles explained that “Calle Carretera del Superior Morón, especially the section that runs through the village, has suffered from numerous leaks in the water supply network for years.” Furthermore, he pointed out that “this action will optimise water consumption, reduce losses, and prevent many of the water cuts that have been occurring.”

The outstanding, third phase will begin in the first quarter of 2026 and is expected to take three months to complete. This phase will consist of improving the water supply network on Carretera de Otívar, where 428 linear meters of 110 mm diameter pipe will be installed, 15 water connections will be renewed, and the network will be completed with the connections from the upper part of the municipality.
