Police in Málaga prevented the sale of a newborn baby for 3,000 euros, between its mother and a couple unable to have children themselves.
The Ministry of Health belonging to the Junta de Andalucia, reported this incident on Sunday, revealing the joint operation carried out by Unidad de Policía Nacional Adscrita a la Comunidad Autónoma de Andalucía (UPA in collaboration with the Servicio de Protección al Menor de la Junta de Andalucía.

The investigation began following a provisional, child-protection order, issued by provincial social services regarding a newborn baby girl at a hospital in the province. Once the order was executed, officers immediately removed the baby and placed her with an Emergency Foster Family.
During the biological mother’s questioning by officers, several irregularities and contradictions came out concerning the relationship between her and the supposed father, who was registered as such in the Civil Registry.
As a result of the investigation, officers were able to determine that the biological mother had reached a financial agreement of €3,000 with a couple undergoing fertility treatment.
The man registered as the father is not the biological father, but rather the person who, in collusion with the mother, went to the Civil Registry to register himself as the father of the newborn.
The couple, unable to have children, had contacted the mother and accepted her proposal: to register the newborn as their daughter and, once she was discharged from the hospital, hand her over in exchange for the agreed-upon €3,000.
Currently, the girl is under the wardship of the Junta and resides in a foster home, where she receives the necessary care and protection. The investigation culminated in charges being filed against both the biological mother and the couple who sought to acquire the child.
Furthermore, those involved committed the crime of falsifying a public document by altering essential elements of the baby’s birth certificate in the Civil Registry.
Editorial comment: Although the purchase of humans, albeit even under these circumstance cannot be countenanced, it is tragic that the baby will have an uncertain future in foster homes rather that with the couple who would have undoubtedly cherished and loved the child, providing a stable home.
