The Granada Public Prosecutor has recommended a 9-year, prison sentence followed by another nine years of probation for a man in La Herradura accused of attempted murder.
The victim was his son-in-law’s brother, whom he reportedly shot in a pizzeria on the 20th of November, 2021. It was 20.30h when the 65-year-old accused entered into the establishment, accompanied by his wife, knowing that the intended victim was there because they had had an argument moments before.

An heated argument began between the wife and the victim, which the accused took advantage of to approach the table where the man was sat with a group of people, including the aggressor’s grandson. He reportedly pulled out a pistol from his trouser pocket and shot the victim in the abdomen.
The 28-year-old victim didn’t seek medical attention until the next day when he went to Almuñécar’s Centro de Salud. He was immediately taken to Hospital Santa Ana in Motril to undergo an operation.
The Public Prosecutor also recommends 5,800 euros in compensation for the victim. The trial will be held on the 4th of December in Granada.

Reader’s comment: “Was it an airgun or something? Waiting a day, then going to the salud instead of straight to Motril ER seems a little casual for attempted murder. Possibly there were other factors at work, like maybe the victim trying to protect the shooter, or had something to lead up to the shooting that they didn’t necessarily want publicising, but it all seems a little off.” – Darren
My exact thoughts upon reading the press release. A .22 firearm is lethal at close range. A lead pellet from an airgun (pistol) would have trouble getting through winter clothing but even so. Obviously, there was no copious blood loss other he would have gone straight to the hospital A&E, so it could have been an airgun, lead pellet or BB lodged in there, but as you say, it seems like going straight to hospital would have required some unwilling explanation concering a ‘gunshot wound.’ Could have had something to do with drugs and clans, perhaps. – Martin
Reader’s comment: “Depends where he was shot. As Martin said, with what? The condition of the ammunition etc. A lot of factors involved here. Some .22 ammo is subsonic so light bullet head, light charge… interesting case this.” – Dids
