Emergency services received an alert about a boat drifting without power, yet it was nowhere to be seen, but they did pull a man out of the water who claimed he had been mugged...
This confusing rescue mission came about after a call at 07.30h yesterday off Playa La Malagueta to say that the people onboard a boat were in difficulties because they were drifting with no engine power.

Accordingly, 112, alerted all the different police forces, Salvamento Marítimo and the fire service. However, there was no sign of such a craft off the said beach. What they did see was a man in the water calling for help. Two officers belonging to the Policía Nacional dove in to rescue him and bring him back to the beach.
The victim, who was fully clothed and showing signs of hypothermia, was treated on the spot by paramedics from the ambulance.
The officers questioned him and he told them that he had fallen asleep on the groyne and had woken when he was set upon by two individuals who mugged him and then threw him into the water.
The Policía Nacional have opened an investigation into the incident.
