Well, it seems that Almuñécar is following through with its pledge to provide affordable rental properties, which will be good news for struggling, young families.
Mayor Ruiz Joya explained that the out-of-use, municipal pool on the Paseo Andrés Segovia, will be decommissioned and in its place rental accommodation will be built. If you have any doubts, it’s where the old tourist information office was next to Hotel Los Fenicios. It was also where the Estación Náutica was, which used the pool for training.

According to the architectural study, it would have 100% occupancy with a buildable area of Low+3. This would create approximately 2,612 sq/m, equivalent to 25 or 30 flats.
“Just as we are backing the construction of 60 rental units in Almuñécar, which will begin shortly, we are now taking a further step in La Herradura to expand the rental, housing stock and contain prices, to help young people find their own place,” explained the Mayor.
As for the roadmap: following a Plenary Meeting of the Town Council on the 30th of October, land will be put out to tender, free of charge. The Town Hall promises to make municipal assistance available to speed up the process (this aid will include discount on building tax) and urban-planning fees.
