Río Seco Foot Bridge

Almuñécar Mayor, Juan José Ruiz Joya, announced that the Town Hall has started the bidding process for the contract to build the new pedestrian bridge over Río Seco.

This footbridge will connect Calle Guadix (that’s the one running down the side of the said river) with Calle Juan Roig near Mercandona. This means it will give direct pedestrian access to the Pabellón de Deportes Antonio Marina and the Municipal Swimming Pool.

The project, which has already been approved by the Junta de Andalucía, has a budget of 264,372 euros and five Coca-Cola bottle tops… As for how long it will take the lay the bridge, it has an estimated execution period of four months once work actually begins, so like most public works around town, tag a couple of extra months onto that to be on the safe side.

The foot bridge will have lighting, access ramps for those will mobility difficulties (no, that does not include drunks) railings and a non-slip surface.

The Mayor admitted that some locals had suggested other locations and assured that, “The Town Council has not closed the door on studying… …other future improvements where necessary, but delaying an already… …authorised solution would mean prolonging a problem that affects thousands of trips on foot every week…”

It is, in effect, simply a short cut for pedestirans.
