At last, clearing out and other work is underway by the Junta de Andalucía on the Barranco El Pozuelo within the municipality of Albuñol.
It’s not only a case of clearing out vegetation but also reinforcing the defence walls down the sides to protect against flash floods.

Apparently, this particular barranco fills will a lot of silt brought down from the surrounding hillsides, according to Albuñol Town Hall.
Mayoress, María José Sánchez, together with the Councillor for Urban Development, Rafael Gualda, explained that this work, “Is in answer to a long-standing demand from the Town Hall,” as the bed of the barranco (given the build up of silt) is practically at the same level as the containment walls on either side.
This situation, Mayoress Sánchez explained, causes consternation amongst residents of El Pozuelo because of the risk of the barranco breaking its banks and flooding the urban area.
The walls are being built up some 60cm on both sides, beginning with the side nearest the village.
“With the clearing out work together with the heightening of the protective walls, El Pozuelo gains safety and a peace of mind, both for dwellings and businesses,” concluded the Mayoress.
According to the Town Hall, the work should be finished before Christmas.
