Thrills for Tourists

Torrenueva Costa is going all out for breathtaking views, one of which is staring down past your feet at a long drop through a glass-bottom hanging bridge.

Now we’re getting closer to having a new, hanging viewpoint over the La Joya cliffs; a structure that will stretch 40 metres across a gap some 100 metres above the sea – not for the faint hearted, perhaps.

The project, which has already been fully drafted by the Granada Provincial Council and received European funding, is only awaiting final approval from the Department of the Environment to begin its construction.

The Town Hall hopes this will come through before the end of the year in order to begin erecting it in early 2026. According to Mayor Plácido Lara, the construction work should only take six months.

The Mayor said, “If the hanging bridge [Jolúcar, which already exists] put us on the map, then this viewpoint will do so nationally and even internationally.” He is quite convinced that this new project will be “a unique tourist attraction in Europe owing to its design and location.”

So where is it going, precisely? It will be built on the La Joya cliff, between the beach and the lighthouse, at one of the highest points in the municipality. It will feature a suspended walkway and a glass platform, designed to offer visitors an “exciting and adrenaline-filled” experience, similar to the sensation of walking across the Jolúcar hanging footbridge.

“We want visitors to feel that tingling sensation when looking down at the sea from above,” says the Mayor.
