The Ministry of Public health for the Junta de Andalucia, Antonio Sanz, announced after a cabinet meeting that the official forest-fire period has been extended until November.
The forest-fire campaign was to finish yesterday, the 15th of October, but given the fact that temperatures are still high for this time of the years, Infoca will remain on fire watch for the next fortnight, as well.

Antonio Sanz, who has just taken up this particular post following the resignation of the previous Head over the breast-cancer detection failures, said, “We must continue exercising precaution in our forest lands to avoid cases of negligence or accidents that could cause a forest fire,” adding, “It is everybody’s responsibility; not only of the administrations, to protect the immense forestlands of Andalucia.”
This means that BBQ’s are still forbidden in public picnic areas where there are facilities for them, as is burning cuttings, etc on farmland and motor vehicles on forest or mountain tracks, etc.

Reader’s comment: “It’s strange because we live in torrecuevas and all during the summer there has been fires on the land started by the people who maintain it, but we have never seen any police or bomberos activity to stop them, thank god there was no large forest fires anywhere around us. It is absolutely ridiculous.” – Robert Briggs
