The Asociación de Amigos de Galicia in La Herradura are celebrating their Día de Galicia today as the 25th is the Día de Santiago Apóstol, patron saint of both Galicia and Spain.
In collaboration with the Asociación Amigos de La Herradura and the Town Hall, celebrations will begin at 20.30h this evening with a church service in San José Church. Well, you wouldn’t hold it in a launderette, would you?

Anyway, after the church service there will be a group playing Galician bagpipes, Gaitas del Sur, who will knock up a few Celtic-flavoured tunes.
After this, there will be a parade along the Paseo de Andrés Segovia, to be followed at 21.45h with a diner featuring Galician goodies accompanied by more Galician folk music in Restaurante Mercato.
There will be the traditional Conxuro da Queimada, with the latter being an alcoholic drink that is ignited and whilst it burns, the former, spells, are cast to keep away evil spirits, which means there won’t be many politicians present, perhaps.
Whilst everybody is stuffing themselves and throwing salt over their shoulder, clutching crucifixes, there will also be a raffle where the prize will be a leg of Jamón Serrano, donated by the Asociación Amigos de La Herradura. You’ll need some heavy-duty spells cast to keep every other blighter away from your leg of ham, if you win it.
Obviously space is limited at this diner so don’t be surprised if they tell you to sling your hook if they are full..
