Solidarity over A Child’s Death

Whilst in the USA masked men hunt people of the wrong colour to expel them from the country, in Huétor-Tájar the whole town has united to help resident, bereaved, Bolivian parents

Last Sunday, their 6-year-old boy, José Emilio Fernández Terrazas, died from a tumour and the response from the people of Huétor-Tájar has been overwhelming.

The funeral was paid for the company where the parents work, parish funds and the Town Hall, with the fund accrued in record time.

In the tanatorio (funeral viewing room) there is a collection box, whose contents will be handed over to the family, who have lived in the town for four years, to spend on “complemenary expenses.”

“Thanks goes to the whole town of Huétor Tájar for always being there when needed. Thank you to all the businesses, indiviuals and parishoners for coming to aid the family of José Emilio,” read the Town Hall communiqué.

The Mayor of Huétor Tájar, Fernando Delgado, said that “the town has shown, once again, its solidarity with humble parents who are going throught the worst of times,” adding, “The day before the boy died, they mother who was heavily pregnant, gave birth to another child; we’ve never seen anything like this before and are devastated.”
